Fiction
Current fiction projects include a literary mystery of the early 1990s and a novel about an unconventional family, art, and responsibility, beginning with a permission slip in need of a signature.
I recently completed a YA dystopian novel manuscript, NEVER HOLD YOUR BREATH IN A MIST, and a novel manuscript, DIVISION OF BIRDS, about a man raised in the circus and the mother he does not know.
My linked-story collection, THE BONES OF THE MOUSE MAKE THE CAT, takes place across the twentieth century inside, and away from, the community of a small truck circus. I am thrilled to have won the W.S. Porter Prize from Regal House Publishing. The book is slated to appear in 2028.
My flash-prose chapbook, Staircases Will Outnumber Us, is available from Red BIrd. For a taste of my writing, please see Selected Writing and my blog.

Poetry
I write poems using constraints and, sometimes, traditional forms. I work on erasures and collaged texts as meditation and reanimation. A chapbook of erasure poems, Trees Full of Walking, is forthcoming from Dancing Girl Press.

The Other Whale
The Other Whale is an erasure made with paint on the pages of a 1942 edition of Moby-Dick from Dodd, Mead and Company. The resulting text is different from the text of By Whale: An Erasure, which you can download for free from my Select Writing page
